LETTER FROM RIDING FOR THE DISABLED - SPONSORED RIDE AT WELBECK

SPONSORED RIDE – WELBECK ESTATE

Sunday, 28th September, 2008.

On behalf of Riding for the Disabled I would like to say a sincere THANK YOU to everyone who took part in the above ride, the proceeds from which were so generously donated to Riding for the Disabled. Thank you also to CWG for their support and for the use of their caravan for the RDA display. It was a privilege to be there on the day. The money will be used to good effect to support training within the North Midlands Region.

Riding for the Disabled Association across the country is made up of a federation of more than 500 smaller individual Charities, each of which is responsible for its own management and finances. These groups are always grateful for any funding which is received and which enables them to do so much for their disabled riders. But they are equally dependent upon volunteer helpers to assist directly with the riding sessions and are always seeking new recruits to help cater for the growing number of disabled young people wishing to benefit from horse riding.

RDA volunteers are ordinary people who do extraordinary things. Groups welcome volunteers with a wide range of skills – not just people who know horses, but those who want to be part of something special which brings together horses and people to such great benefit. Every volunteer is given the support to become a full and valued member of the team. Existing volunteers agree that it can be a challenging and very rewarding experience.

Do your members think they could spare just a few hours each week to be part of this? If so, the location of their nearest RDA group can be found on the web site www.rda.org.uk. Or I would be happy to have a chat over the telephone about what to expect.

With very best wishes and THANKS once again.

Winifred Pritchett [Mrs]
RDA Nottinghamshire County Chairman

INTERESTED IN FINDING OUT ABOUT ORGANISING A RIDE?
THEN YOU ARE INVITED TO THE PEAK AND FOREST RIDE ORGANISERS MEETING

We are starting to plan next years ride calendar and as in previous years are looking at holding a meeting for potential ride organisers/ride secretaries to find out what organising or helping out with a ride is all about. This year though we are holding the meetings more locally, and Peak and Forest Group are hoping to hold one in October or early November .The venue will depend on where people are coming from/how many are interested.

We have good resource packs available for all of you to help with organising a ride, support from experienced organisers, and would love to have new rides in our area, with new organisers.

So if you have ever thought about offering to put on a ride or just want to know what it involves, please get in touch with me on 01909 721759 or by email(see contact section) to discuss.

We can promise you an informal, interesting ,informative and enjoyable session with food and drinks included, plus the chance to ask lots of questions.

The "Next Step" competitive rides

In response to requests from the membership for the remainder of the season we will bring in a new class where ride organisers feel that it fits in.

Class name 'Next Step' with the aim of encouraging more people to give it a go. Distance nominally 15m +/- 10%

Limited speed only and no championship points awarded only points and placings awards on the day.

It is envisaged that this class will be used as a Next Step to competitive but might also attract some veteran horses. In conjunction with our rules this class would be run as any other Limited speed class and introduction of this as a continuing class next year would be dependant on both take up and ratification by the members at the end of the season.

Changes to the ride schedule will be published on flyers and in the on line calendar asap.
